Chinese New Year Celebration: A Joyful Welcome to the Year of the Horse at Sadana Center

Our Chinese New Year Celebration at Sadana Center was a delightful and heartwarming way to welcome the Year of the Horse.

Students, family and friends gather at the Sadana Center to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

As guests entered the venue, they were greeted by the glow of red light, calm green stars, and a gentle moon, setting the stage for an evening filled with connection, laughter, and the warmth of people arriving with open hearts to share beautiful moments together.

Shifu Orlando began our celebration with blessings, honoring his ancestors and sharing the deeper meaning of this powerful new year.

When the gong sounded — twelve resonant strikes offered by Shifu’s mother — the room filled with renewal, intention, and the promise of fresh energy.

Laughter carried us through the evening as we shared food, played games, and celebrated abundance together.

From trivia, a fun “guess the weight of the horse” game, the chopstick challenge, to the joyful passing of the red envelope, every moment felt alive with connection.

Prizes, gifts, and plenty of laughter made the night unforgettable.

We also had a lively photo booth filled with fun props, giving our guests the chance to snap playful, joy‑filled photos throughout the night. It added an extra layer of excitement to the celebration and helped everyone create lasting memories to carry into the Year of the Horse.

What the Red Envelope (Hung Bao) Offering Means

During our event, guests had the opportunity to place a red envelope in the offering basket next to the altar. This gesture connected everyone to the deeper cultural meaning of the celebration — honoring Shifu's ancestors, expressing gratitude, and welcoming the fresh energy of the Year of the Horse.

Raffle for a Year‑of‑the‑Horse Mascot

A highlight of the night was seeing one of Shifu’s students win the mascot plush for the second year in a row! He had been telling everyone in class all week that he was going to win the horse mascot — and sure enough, luck was on his side. It added a playful, joyful moment to the celebration and had everyone laughing.

To everyone who joined us: thank you. Your presence made this celebration shine.
