The Importance of Having a Qigong Master for Your Practice and Wellbeing

As you engage in Qigong practice, focus on calming your mind, controlling your breath, and refrain from thinking—simply observe yourself quietly.

"Eventually, you will reach a point where everything aligns with you, and you will unite with the Universe..."

These words always echo in my heart. They were given to me by my first Buddhist Qigong Master in 1986, and I consistently share them with my students.

In today's world, where everything moves at a rapid pace and people fail to realize that everything in the Universe has its own order and timing, everyone seeks quick outcomes.

This is particularly evident in this part of the West, where people desire everything to be as fast as instant coffee.

Imagine a large tree filled with numerous leaves. What is presented as Qigong is merely one leaf of that tree, which many refer to as Qigong.

Following the pandemic, Qigong gained popularity as individuals sought methods to alleviate stress and anxiety and enhance their immune systems.

When I view those "Qigong" videos online, they are quite different from what Qigong truly represents. Nowadays, there are countless online courses providing weekend Qigong certifications, yet this is NOT authentic Qigong.

We should also acknowledge the countless fusions and adaptations that many have made with Yoga, the so-called EFT Emotional Freedom Technique, and other holistic systems to develop their own versions of Qigong.

It's truly disrespectful to the Masters and the heritage of this beautiful art that numerous weekend instructors with poor posture fundamentals think they can conduct seminars or teach Qigong classes after merely reading three Qigong books.

I recognize it's a challenging topic to grasp and often hard to interpret because understanding Qigong requires opening your heart, dedicating thousands of hours to continuous practice, and following a genuine Master.

In summary:

  • Qigong cannot be learned from books.

  • Qigong cannot be learned from videos.

  • Qigong cannot be mastered in a few classes or through weekend certifications.

  • Qigong cannot be learned by visiting temples.

  • Qigong is not for self-teaching.

  • Qigong is learned from masters shaped by other masters.

  • Masters shaped by respect and tradition.

  • Teachers shaped by truth and humility.

  • Teachers who have honored their own teachers.

  • Teachers who respect their students.

  • Teachers who respect their students are those who honor and respect their own teachers.

You now understand this is the true path of Qigong practice.
